SJ City PD
Has St. Joseph, Michigan Police moved to 800 MHz? Their old VHF frequency seems to be awfully quiet lately.
I thought SJ city was strongly against moving to 800.
Also, although perhaps not relevant anymore, what frequency do they switch to when they say SRT?
I asked one of the officers what SRT means and she told me "special response team," and indicated it was "just another frequency on their radio." I didn't press my luck and ask what the frequency is (assuming the officers even know).

They have a few radios, and I hear some SJPD units on 11NCOM when they are getting assists from County or State. Most of the traffic is still on 155.910, and SJTPD sometimes jumps over to VHF to assist. SJPD doesn't have too many 800's on the road at any one time.

According to a newspaper article I read around a year ago, the city of SJ was applying for federal grants to help purchase new radios. The article did not specify what band there to be on but were for interoperability with Berrien County and neighboring jurisdictions, which leads me to believe they are talking about the MPSCS. However, I have not heard of them receiving any grant money lately.

I listened for some time this morning on MPSCS system and didn't hear SJ.
I also had another scanner running having it search the entire public service bands, and still didn't hear SJ on any frequency.
I usually have my scanner on going to and from work, and also during lunch and haven't heard SJ all week. They have one woman officer who seems to be a "butinski" and always has something to say, so I'm surprised I haven't even heard her.

Maybe they are using Nextel radios?

They're not on the system on a daily basis. I hear them maybe 2-3 times a month.

I am thinking that if the St. Joseph City Police Department, went to a new radio system it would of been in the Hearld-Palladium, for two reasons.
1. The Hearld-Palladium jumps at chances to report on something like this.
2. If it was done with Grant Money, U.S. Congressmen Upton from St. Joseph, would of been on all the local TV and Radio News programs and in all local newspapers with this, Congressmen Upton always makes sure He gets alot of P.R. out of grant money coming to his district.

I heard SJPD 6805 on 11NCOM 0148 Monday morning.
Yeah, the DB for SJ/BH area is a little iffy.
154.800- Repeater Input for SJPD 261DCS
155.970- Repeater Output for SJPD
158.790- Repeater Input for BHPD 155DCS
155.670- Repeater Output for BHPD
465.200- Repeater Input for BTPD 82.5PL
460.200- Repeater Output for BTPD
This is the SJ/BH channel setup for regular activity.

I have my the answer. I went out to the FCC website Friday afternoon and found SJ city PD was issued a license for a new VHF frequency toward the end of November.
I was going to ask Sgt. Smiedendorf where they went when I saw him in church on Sunday, but I already had the answer by then.
Now, wouldn't it be nice if every officer in the county had their own personal radio ID number like SJ city does? That way you would always know who's talking.
For example:
6805 Sgt. Rick Smiedendorf
6834 Officer Denise Fisher
6836 Officer Elliot
6838 Officer Boelcke (I think)
6839 Officer Fields

SJ City PD was also using 460.3 as a tac channel for a time. Unsure if this is still the case.
