Exclamation 453.4500MHz odd activity...

453.4500MHz, the old Mount Clemens F2 Police frequency has some unusual activity on it tonight. They just keep keying, but not talking, over, and over.

Not according the RR's Database. Besides, it's not even in service since Macomb County Sheriff took over dispatching police for Mount Clemens.

If it's a new system it will not necessarily be in the TRS DB. How often is the key-up?
Is it regular or irregular? It could be some sort of LTR system such as Passport.

This transition of having Macomb County Sheriff take over dispatching for Mount Clemens, Michigan just happened not too long ago. I think it's too soon for someone else to be licensed for the frequency. I'm thinking it's more like someone is playing around with the old radio system tonight.
I just started hearing it tonight. There would be short segments, that sounded like they were keying up, over, and over, about six, to eight times, then nothing for about fifteen minutes. Then it started again a few times. Now it's been quiet.

Any audio at all or even digital hiss - such as in an MDT info channel?

It's like they key up, then you get about 1-1/2 seconds of light static noise, with a strong signal, but not full FM quieting, then when they un-key, there is just a very short, faint trace of an electronic chirp. Almost as if they're doing a little tweaking, and tuning? It does this about six, to ten times. Then nothing. Even if it was some type of modulation I couldn't decode, they don't seem to be active long enough to be discussing anything. It doesn't sound like an MDT to me at all.

What made me take notice is that it should be out of service. In addition to that, I have not heard any activity on it previously, since Macomb County Sheriff took over dispatching, and I haven't heard any activity on it since the night of my original post, 12/30/05.

Maybe Mount Clemens is getting ready to put it up for auction, and some amateur radio buddys were doing a little pre-auction evaluation!
