Default Oakland County MA/COM

When is this MA/Com system going online? When I had a training class at the Royal Oak police station the new tower was up and this was Sept 2004! I think they should stay on the multi-million dollar Motorola 800 system they have now.

No word on what the hold up is, that I can find. I am not in any hurry for the new system, with no public receiver available. The trunked system in Northern Oakland County seems to work just fine and could have been expanded to cover the entire county for a lot less money. And that is not even mentioning the entire rest of the state switching over to the Michigan statewide system.

The latest I heard, was spring of next year. However, I am not going to hold my breath for it to happen then.

I still use a Uniden BC895XLT Trunktracker that i bought in 1998. I'm not buying another scanner until one comes out that can monitor this new Open Sky system. I really am not interested in listening to MSP, but I am interested in listening to the Oakland county system.

Cool Oakland County System

I work for a F.D. in the O.C. and our mechanic knows a guy that is installing these new radios. "They" are having problems with them. What problems? I don't know. I also heard spring at the EARLIEST. I was told more like a year from now. I personally think there are other system that will work just fine, but O.C. is pretty keen to the MA/COM because of the distance it gets and the reception in building. There is a link on one of these past posts about this subject that tells all about it. I am optomistic that one day there will be a scanner for this system, but I bet it won't be for a while. I am not too worried about it because eventually as funds become available, we will each get out own $4,000 prep radio to take care of and hopefully never break or lose or rent out to buddies that want to listen in. LOL

Default Current OC system I.E. Sheriffs, Pontiac FD, Medcoms

I listen to the current O.C. system that is being used by the sheriffs, Pontiac FD, and the medcom hospital channels, amoungst other agencies. It sounds staticy and poppy no matter how close to that area of the O.C. I am. I am using a 296D

Generally the comms sound good here on the counties system. The only time I hear problems is when the guy in the back of an ambulance is calling a hospital on his portable.

It is staticy and poppy on 98% of all transmissions, not matter what the agency. I am listening from area of Orchard Lake Rd. and Commerce.

I've lived in Rochester HIlls and most recently in the Clarkston area and have not found any static or popping on the Oakland County trunked system. I've listened on Bearcat 245, 780, 296 and now the new 396. Using all original antennas I might add. Reception is very good on virtually all Sheriff TG's and Pontiac Fire TG's. Once in a while the Pontiac FD portables may experience static during an interior attack in a large building but even then it is rare not to be able to easily understand them.
