Default Superbowl 2006

Any idea what frequencies will be in use for the Superbowl at Ford Field? I know, the last few years anyway, they rent a large amount of radios so everyone can be on the same channel, but Transcrypt was contracted to install scramblers in all the rented radios. Anyone know whats going on?

All comms for the 2006 SUPERBOWL in Detroit will be on the MPSCS/ Detroit system. The only exception will be the individual vendors, support crews and media which will be on their own systems.

I am sure you will catch a lot of traffic on other towers besides Detroit's. Events 7,8,9 would be a good place to start.

Happy New Year!

I would scan Detriot's APCO-25 in open mode so you're sure to catch everything! I'm sure there will be activity all over the city during the SuperBowl, not just at the game.

The following FBI Detroit repeater outputs where all monitored from Toledo, OH with special event traffic for the Baseball All Star game detail during this past summer. I would keep an ear on these again, as I suspect there may be even more federal activity.

167.5375, 167.6375, 170.5500, 170.8250, 170.9500

Happy New Year! I check the FFA Web site at http://tfr.faa.gov/tfr/list.jsp and don't see anything yet. There may be temporary flight restrictions showing up soon.

Super Bowl; Super Security

Cast of 10,000 will serve, protect during big week

David Shepardson / The Detroit News
January 25, 2006

DETROIT -- Sunday is D-Day.

The FBI and Detroit Police will open one of the largest security operations in U.S. history, guarding against any threats to Super Bowl XL and aided by more than 50 federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Including private security guards, there will be upward of 10,000 security personnel on duty in Detroit for the Super Bowl, rivaling the security for any other one-day event in U.S. history and on a scale with a presidential inauguration, the FBI says, capping 18 months of intensive preparations. It would be a larger force than any previous Super Bowl.

At 8 a.m. Sunday -- a week before the big game -- the FBI will open its Joint Operation Center at the McNamara Federal Building and will staff it around the clock for seven straight days.

The FBI even knocked down a few walls on the 20th floor to make room for security preparation.
