Default help!

Very new to scanning! I have had this BC296d since xmas and can't get it setup. I have been reading the posts here for weeks. that is after I had read the manual god knows how many times. I am trying to setup the state police and detroit area police. The best I seem to be able to do is to get a couple of channels that some times has traffic on them but I can't figure out who it is yet. some times i get both ends of the message and sometimes only one side. I am about to go crazy! Anyone out there in the Lansing area that can help. I got a file and managed to get it installed for the detroit area and will have to test it next time I am down there.

I have a 296D. What exactely is the problem?? You may not have very good luck with the Detroit Police Department. All scanners are having problems picking up the Detroit system. Let me know what is the issue with programming your 296.

Default Control Channel

For the MPSCS I have been told to enter in the tower that is closest to you. Enter in all the control channels and the secondary channels and set the plan code for PLAN 2. I have also been told to only enter in just the control channels and nothing more, but found that to make no difference at least where I am. ( south of Detroit )

Make sure you have all freqs entered in the correct MODE, ie, EDACS, MOTO.

To program the plan, hit, MENU/BACK, SCAN OPTION, TRUNK, chose the bank you want to set the plan code for, scroll until you see CNTRL CH ONLY, set PLAN 2, ENTER then hit scan again and you should be all set.

Try this file if you're using Uniden software, Diamondale is bank 1 and Lansing is bank 2.

Is there any thing I need to do after putting in this file? The file went right in but I still don't hear any thing. some one else told me that this scanner has an apco board in it. It does say apco when first turned on. would that affect what I am trying to do?

If you hold on a control channel on Diamondale or Lansing, can you hear it, or if you take trunking off on the channels and try to scan do you get the control channel noise, and if so on what freq?
If none of the above where are you at?

I seem to be getting a control channel on 868.4625. do you know where m 100 and grand river come together. i am in that area. Diamondale is very staticy but it does stop on two of the channels from time to time. by the way the apco board is on in the radio, should it br turned off? someone told me that was the problem but I didn't want to try to turn it off until I got another opinion.

Acording to Uniden it can, I thought it was the handheld version of the 796.

868.4625 is NOT a CONTROL CHANNEL ON DIAMONDALE OR LANSING. It shows up as:
Jones,Phelphs,Alendale, Petoskey or Newberry. What City and county are you in?

seamusg It is a channel in the help file you sent me. oh wait a minute read it wrong it is 866.4625. my fault. I am listed in grand Ledge Mi. County of Clinton but eaton county starts 1/2 mile down the road. The diamondale tower is the closest tower I could locate on the map. Last night when I was running just a conventional scan looking for a control channel. I could hear Lansing PD clear as ever, so I know diamondale should work just fine.

The file I sent you was all the channels for Diamondale in one bank and all the cgannels for Lansing in another bank. It should have worked. A control channel is a steady buzz not intermittent. 866.4625 is not a control channell in your area. Here's a new file with the control channels only. You have to have a fairly good signal on the control channel to receive the tower.
