Question Having scanner in car

Can I have a scanner in my car here in michigan? I hear its illegal but cant you get some type of form to fill out that lets you have one in your car legally? If there is some way you can have one in your car where do you get it and what does it cost?

You can have a scanner in your vehicle but only if you have a license to do so. You can get an application at www.Michigan.gov somewhere within the state police files you will find it. Maybe someone else has the link saved and can give it to you, but here is a start. The cost is FREE.

This is the URL to fill out and print your application. The form is in PDF format and once it opens you can type into the form on screen. Send it to the address listed, in East Lansing, and it should be processed this time of year in less than 3 weeks. If you have any questions, use the phone number on the form and speak with Jill in the Communications Office - weekdays only, 9 AM to 4 PM, eastern time.

I'm not a resident of Michigan but received mine for those times that I have to respond into the U.P. as a Public Safety Chaplain. It is issued for life unless you violate the provisions of the permit.

Am I correct that a valid ham radio license is also a permit for a scanner in a car?
