Msp
Anybody monitor MSP in south macomb county , south oakland county, and wayne county? Coming from sterling hts, when I hit about 10 mile road and start going west Mt. Clemens tower is useless, Romeo and Richmond are dead that south, and Detroit 701 is....well we all know how well that works....the signal goes between 2 and 4 bars signal on my 796d but choppy, and then it just starts dropping the control channel all together sometimes and picks up when it feels like it. Havn't had any luck with Northville really on my way down southfield freeway to Dearborn. FYI I have a bank with close MPSCS towers control channels, and I lock out all of them other than the one I'm closest to at the time. Also I have the bank set to control channel only, plan 2. It seems to pick up Warren trunk great when I'm in sterling hts/warren, and it picks up MSP very well on the mt. clemens site when I'm in sterling hts, even if there is like 1 or 2 bars signal.
Does MSP utilize any of the towers used by Wayne county (Wayne county west digital trunk system and the new wayne county system - currently analog).
I ordered an antenna switch yesterday so I can hook up my ASCANC and 800mhz antenna and switch them, hopefully the 800mhz antenna will allow at least stable reception of 701. I don't understand how the MSP or others work on this system, what do they do that we aren't?

They are closing the #27 in Groveland so I wouldn't worry about that post much. The 2nd district has been having a handfull of problems as of late. They can't seem to trouble shoot it either. No they don't use any of WCSO's towers..

Ever since they shut down the old tower 209 in Detroit and switched to tower 701 with the Detroit Simulcast, I have very limited reception in the I-75/I-696 area. I don't know if MSP is having any issues in this area.

Joey:
I checked with my friend that drives that same route you do, and he was not successful with MPSCS either...and he was using the new BCD396T.
More towers are going up in various areas of Macomb County, and probably other areas as well, so hopefully things will improve.

Actually I'll answer that for you now... Detroit's simulcast works fine if you are stationary and are very close to one of the towers and/or have a beam pointed right at the tower. As does Genesee Co's and Monroe Co's. They don't work well otherwise. There is no reason to believe Macomb Co will be any different.
So start looking for a new house or nice directional antenna ;>

I will need at least two. One pointed at Macomb Co and one pointed at Detroit. Might as well cause Oakland Co (where I live) will be radio dark in another year!

yeah that seems pretty sad you have to be stationary AND right under the tower or have a special yagi antenna just to monitor. I miss the UHF system I could get sitting on my porch in sterling hts with a rubber duck on a pro-29. bah.

Thats good. Since OCSO doesn't patrol up their way much at all. That area near Leonard would be hurting real bad with out the #27..
