Cool warning to my friends in michigan

Michigan will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy. The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 1 million will go to pay state troopers overtime. There will be 50 state troopers on duty at all times patrolling the 6 main intersections and highways.

I-75 north and south
I-94 (from Ann Arbor to Port Huron)
Entire length of I-696
I-275 north and south
M-10 Lodge Fwy
I-96 from Detroit West to M-14

Now, 5 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every state trooper is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 minutes. They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and they are bringing all their part timers on full time. If you work anywhere in the Detroit Metropolitan area, you must take one of there interstates, routes, or parkways. It's up to you how fast you are doing when they do.

Wear your seat belt, nothing hanging from the rear view mirror, do the speed limit (not a mile over) use cruise control if you have it, no cracks in your windshield, use your turn signals.

They could all meet their quota out by where I live. The area around 23 Mile Rd, and Romeo Plank Road is like the Autobahn in Germany!

I didn't think quotas were allowed any more. At least not in Ohio. Michigan might be another story in that aspect.

I personally think that if cops want to make $$$, they need to worry about hard core crimes. Rape, murder, drug deals, etc...

Go after the big boys and stop wasting our time.

Quota's what quota's??? but if you want to keep your job you're going to write a few... general rule of thumb for some dept's are one a day..... I don't agree with spending money for overtime to write tickets. That kind of stuff is truely taxiation without representation!!!

"5 mph above the limit can justify a ticket"

Never in Michigan. If that's what you read, it is safe to assume the rest of your post is incorrect too...

"every state trooper is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 minutes"

I don't think that's possible to get everything written up and reset into a safe spot - but it's been quite a while since I've been ticketed.

"That kind of stuff is truely taxiation without representation"

Uhhh. okay.

Your math is a little off, just to do I75 North to South is 383 miles or one car every 76 miles, with 50 cars. That's about normal patrol. I don't see how it is physically possible.

EXACTLY!!! Just like the cleaning crews that have been mucking up all the freeways this week.
I suspect this ticket campaign will end the same day as the international news coverage.
Just like the felon sweep they started this week, to get all the felons off the street before the news coverage begins.

Well I don't think I have anything to worry about with my drive from Grand Rapids to Lansing and back for work four days a week. I have always worn my seat belt. No cracked glass, no tinted windows, and I don't drive anywhere near 70 MPH. I drive between 55 and 60 to conserve as much gas as I can, and I always use my turn signals. If they are going after the ones speeding they also need to go after the reckless drivers. And the ones that plug "stupid" into their ears while they are driving. Yes I mean "cell phones"!! I know I-96 between Grand Rapids and Lansing is patroled pretty heavy, and 131 in Grand Rapids has always got MSP all over it.

I have a feeling all this patrol is a step up on security for the Super Bowl also.

Please, even if MSP wanted to, there aren't enough Troops for this level of traffic enforcement, given that most posts are not soley "freeway" but are part of a central dispatch agreement and the Troops are responsible for answering complaint calls as well as working traffic. MSP does have several semi-marked cars, but it's probably more like 15-20 throughout the state. *Don't believe everything you read!!!*

Exclamation

where are you getting your information from.......... that is not going to happen the state police were facing possible layoffs, and there is no way they are going to bring in more people. and there are no part time troopers........

Default Traffic legends

While this thread is just an Urban Legend the city of Troy is not. They run 3 and 4 car crews quite often between Adams and Rochester Roads. I travel that stretch quite often and one time, late last year on a warm day, I saw a Troy cop STANDING in the median at the rise near Crooks and pointing a radar gun North bound at the South bound traffic. As I crested the hill I saw 2 or 3 traffic stops and a couple more cars on the side ready to go!

When they were first testing Laser, they'd set a guy in the median, laser on a tripod, near adams where traffic has to crest the hill to see them southbound. They'd have 6 or 7 cars lined up just waiting for the next vicitm.
My company now uses GPS/Cell setups on the trucks, so I keep it below 76 since this is when they get exception reports...
Besides, I get paid by the hour, no need to speed

"where are you getting your information from"

For everyone who still is posting "I can't believe this will happen" -- I refer to the link above posted by Mike. This is an "Urban Legend." Which means it is not true, never was true, and has no potential to be true.
