How not to receive encrypted radio
I am using a Uniden 296D and have all of the MPSCS different towers programed in for when I travel. I realize the best way will be to put the scanner in ID search. Do this will cause me to get the encrypted noise as well. Is there a setting to eliminate this?
Thanks

Not quite sure what you mean, but ID's are usually meant for Trunked systems, not digital voice. If you don't want to receive digital transmissions, I'm sure you can maybe disconnect the APCO-25 card. I'm not aware of a setting for this.

If you mean encrypted talkgroups, just lock them out when they show up..

I guess I did not make myself clear enough. It is encrypted talkgroups. I knew I could just lock them out when they appear but was hoping for an easier way.
Thanks

If he disconcets the CARD he wont receive anything on the system, his post was about encrypted not being digital MPSCS is all digital with some encryption. This is a Michigan system not a NH conv using P25.

I don't know of any other way other than having your own software to control the scanner, you can do ID SCAN with the TG'g you want but your limited, Locking out TG's has a limit and are only locked out for that bank, the same TG would have to be locked out in each bank.

The state of NH police/troopers is all digital. Not conventional.

The state police of NH according to the DB here, is conventional digital.
There is no way I know of on a 9600 system to bypass encrypted on a 296 without locking out the TGs. It won't mute the ENC talkgroups like the GREs or perhaps the 396.

From looking at the system, it looks like 6% of 1300+ TG's are encrypted. He just might have enough L/O memory to do it with 10 banks on the scanner that's alittle over 800 L/O's.

Best to program stuff you want to listen to in lists vs. running in search mode since its likely that 80% of the talkgroups are rarely used. Not that I know ANYTHING about that system, but I've never understood why a system would need 30 training and special events channels. If there are more good talkgroups than allowed in the scanner, its best then to divide the state into sections and duplicate the system(s) over several banks.

Alot of the more active TG's tend to be on different sites at different times, depends where someone is at. I have 4 sites in my scanner now, 3 cover the county where I live and one covers part of Wayne Co. ( I leave Detroit out). The state keeps adding users often and a lot of Fed traffic is on it. The problem with Uniden scanners is that they will only do one site per bank. The G-EVENT and H-EVENT TG's get used alot for speed and seatbelt enforcement. There is a lot of local stuff on the system and the State is trying to get all the local's on it. The county I live in, Macomb, is going on the system later this year along with most of the locals. I solved the problem, at least for me, by writing my oun control program, which blocks out ENC and looks up TG's I don't have in the scanner. It would be nice if some comercial software would do this, but I don't think there are many other systems of this size.
