Default Dispatching being outsourced more in the near future.

This is a continuation on dispatching that was discussed on the Eastpointe Fire department topic. I heard from a source that St. Clair Shores intends to outsource its dispatching as soon as they get the new digital radios. Has anyone heard about outsourcing dispatching in other Michigan communities? I guess it can be done with the new system, since there are towers throughout Michigan.

If it goes the way that I.T. went, next time you call 911, you might be talking to someone in India!

I suppose it will be more efficient. They may have dispatchers who are Bilingual and or have a paramedic license to give advanced medical instructions. Plus smaller communities won't have to pay a lot for computers and radio stations.

Yea...

If you need to file a police report, press or say 1.
If you need a tow truck, press or say 2
If you need to be extracted, press or say 3
If you are in urgent need medical attention, please stay on the line, your call is important to us!

I haven't heard about SCS outsourcing their dispatch, but I wouldn't want to be an elected official there if they did, how do you spell recall. With the new system it could be handled by the county or any other city with no problem. Right now you have MCS handeling Mt. Clemens PD and before they took over the PD they were doing the Dispatch. Also Chesterfield Twp. does the dispatch for New Baltimore. And the Northern Macomb County have been talking about combining.

I heard this from a high city offical. He said many other communities are considering it as well. Hopefully this does not turn out to be another Mt. Clemens situation. A tight knit community like St. Clair Shores would not like the Sheriff's Dept. coming in to patrol their town. I don't think they would ever outsource the SCS police. Personally outsourced dispatching would not bother me as a resident.

Rember that's step 1.
