Gunshots fired at Zebra Bar
Nobody hit in fracas; police haven't identified shooter
Port Huron police are searching for information on an early Friday morning shooting at a downtown bar.
About 1:40 a.m., officers heard what sounded like gunshots at the Zebra Lounge, 522 Quay St. When officers responded, they found a fight had broken out at the bar and witnesses said they heard gunshots. Investigation found evidence of two or three shots fired both inside and outside the bar, said Port Huron police Lt. Jim Jones.
Police don't believe anyone was injured by the gunfire and are not sure who fired the gun.
"No one can identify who had the gun and who did the shooting," Jones said.
A 24-year-old Port Huron man was treated and released from Port Huron Hospital after receiving minor cuts during the fight.
Zebra Lounge owner Jay Van Hulle said he was at the bar when the incident happened. He didn't hear any shots, but heard people yelling that there was a gun. Van Hulle said the fight had moved to outside the bar when shots were heard.
He said there haven't been any incidents recently at the bar.
"I've been happy with the way things have been running," he said. "This is a fighting town, and it's been months since anything's happened. We're always trying to make security better."
