Earlier I heard them mention "I-TAC4" in Talkaround mode. They must be using for some type of command operations, possibly water supply if necessary. If we have a really dry and hot summer, I would look forward to a very busy wildfire season across the state.

wildfire that forced evacuations in two counties is about ninety-five percent contained at this hour. Forest workers believe it has burned around six thousand acres. The blaze broke out yesterday afternoon in Southern Oscoda County on Valley Road near Union Corner Road. Large plumes of smoke could be seen for miles.

The fire started in an area of Jack Pine forest. With high winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures the fire quickly grew out of control. Firefighters won't know until later in the day if the fire damaged any homes.

I drove through the area Sunday night and stopped for gas and a bite to eat. I had no idea about the fire untill everyone started asking me why I wasn't at the fire (I had my FD shirt on). There was lots of smoke in spots on I75. Lots of activity on statewide event G14 when I was there.

There should have been traffic on the USFS frequencies too. The south part of Oscoda Co. used to be in the USFS protection area. There was a Ranger Station in Mio in the 70s.

I've heard quite a few of the DNR fire management talk groups over the past couple days. It's been very active up this way, especially with the fire in Oscoda Co.
