Genesee County MPSCS TRS Update

Genesee County Officials, with the full cooperation of the MPSCS have officially petitioned the FCC (pending #0001704794) to implement a six-site simulcast system that will be a sub-system to the regular MPSCS TRS. The new system will allow full interoperability with all public safety agencies throughout the county and across the entire state. The following frequencies are planned to be used for the new TRS:

866.3125
866.3875
866.7500
867.0375
867.3500
867.6625
867.7250
868.2125
868.2750
868.3750
868.7375
868.8875


The six tower sites will be located as follows:

1. Mount Morris - 6110 E. Francis Road: 107 meters AGT.

2. Swartz Creek - 6370 Ray Road: 87 meters AGT.

3. Flint - 1 km southeast of the intersection of Coldwater Road and M-54: 97.5 meters AGT.

4. Goodrich - 500 meters southeast of the intersection of Gale and Hegel Roads: 109.7 meters AGT.

5. Flushing - 1.3 km southwest of the intersection of Carpenter and McKinley Roads: 97.5 meters AGT.

6. Montrose - 95.7 meters west of Marshall Road & 1 km south of Lake Road: 97.5 meters AGT.

AGT = Above Ground Terrain.

Additionally, each tower site will have the conventional International Mutual Aid channels of: 866.0125 and 866.5125 MHz., that will be used for mutual aid and fallback communications.

I notice they are still saying they are going to be the first subsystem to join the MPSCS. Although Detroit has not done the licensing on the transmitter sites, it's possible that Detroit may beat them to be the first subsystem in actual operation.

Yes, this is very true. Genesee County really dragged their feet for the longest time when it came to signing the final paperwork to put construction into motion. Meanwhile, Detroit has approached the building of their system with a "full steam ahead" policy since day one. I believe this will have the "Motor City Simulcast System" online before Genesee County.

"ATLAS TOWER WORK BRINGS EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION CLOSER" by Elizabeth Lowe

ATLAS TWP.- With a new access road and transmitter building constructed in the township, emergency workers are edging closer to reliable communication.

The road and building were recently built at the site of the WFUM tower near Washburn and Kipp Road, where the Genesee County 911 Consortium will soon co-locate microwave dishes for its new 800MHz system.

The system, expected to be up by this fall, will allow firefighters and police to communicate, even from inside buildings. Four towers located throughout Genesee County will carry the signal.

A last-minute change in tower locations took place last year, when 911 director Lloyd Fayling learned WFUM was willing to accomodate the system's equipment requirements on its existing tower.

The arrangement brought plans for a new tower near Gale and Hegel Roads to a halt, to the relief of township residents.

"Now we're starting to move fast," Fayling said.

"The most difficult part was getting the tower locations. It's starting to get exciting now."
