They may also use H_Event talk groups for special details such as last weekend when they had a deer decoy set out in Manistee Co. It was pretty interesting listing.

That's correct MichMar. The talkgroups start about tg1010 for G-Event and run through tg1039 in the H-Event.

Sorry - I'm a newbie when it comes to trunked systems and talk groups.
What do "G" and "H" (and "I" and "J" for that matter) mean?
I wondered what those "Special Event" and "Statewide Event" tg's were, since there's not a specific subject for the description. What else might be discussed on those tg's?

G,H,I,J refer to the table those talk groups are in a Motorola radio. Special event TG' are almost any thing from seat belt enforcement to a presidential visit.

MichMar,
as seamusg stated those tg's are for radio traffic outside the norm so that the regular tg's don't get congested with traffic of a specialized nature. I have heard 'special event' tg's assigned by dispatchers but I'm not sure who makes the decision to open that tg.

By my understanding:
Any MPSCS agency may request the use of a special event talkgroup as needed. To get one of these talkgroups, the agency submits a request to the Network Control Center (NCC) requesting the talkgroup, stating the reason for needing it, and how long it will be needed. Once the request is approved, the talkgroup is enabled.
This is my understand based on conversations I've heard on the air. It may not be exactly right, but should be close.

I've heard it done at least twice during emergency situations and they just asked the dispatcher and within about 10 seconds the dispatcher came back on and said that H-Event ?? was open for their use. This was done by Negaunee (80) Regional dispatch.
I'm pretty sure that a MSP Sgt. is on duty all the time there and must be able to make that decision in an emergency. I've heard the dispatchers say "the sgt.' says to break off the pursuit or such and such complaint has priority or something of that nature.
