Smile Should have had the scanner in the car so I could hear my call go out

Yesterday we went over to GR in the afternoon. On our way out of Holland we witnessed an accident. I believe I was the first person to call 911. No one was hurt - an SUV turned left in front of a girl driving a 2-door car. She was going faster than the speed limit though, so the sheriff ticketed both of them.

I did not know this - the sheriff told my husband, and the girl, and whoever else was standing around, that if you are speeding and somone ELSE causes an accident that they would have otherwise been 100% responsible for, you forfeit your right to right-of-way because you were going faster than the speed limit. So even tho this other guy in the SUV turned left in front of the girl, she was 1/2 to blame because she was speeding.

Anyway, it took 8 minutes from when I called it in, to when I saw the Sheriff pull up. Probably would have been there faster if there had been injuries though.

It was good that you called it in. I think too many people assume the victims have cell phones and are able to use them, or someone else will call it in. Meanwhile precious seconds tick away, that could be used for saving lives!

They're probably all mad because they received tickets, and messed up their cars, forgetting how lucky they are to be alive.

A couple of years ago, a driver who was stopped at a stop sign pulled out in front of another car, causing an accident. Because the driver of the car which had the right-to-way had been drinking (bowling night), he was ticketed instead of the person who pulled out.

It seems to me that to be fair, they both should have been ticketed.

Yes it is true speed loses right of way to most other offenses.

I'm glad that you stayed at the scene. Too many of the people that call in accidents or even drunks don't bother to follow the vehicle or check injuries at the scene.
