If all I hear is R2D2 noises...
If all I hear is R2D2 noises when I get a transmission on a trunked EDACS system (Allegan County), does that mean it's encrypted and I might as well clear out that bank and use it for something else?

is it tracking the system? You have to follow the layout for the freqs on an EDCAS system. ie you cant put the first freq of the system in a 00 channel it must follow the numeric layout

yes, I put the channels in the correct channel slots, starting with 01. I don't get much transmission on that bank, but when I do, it's all garbled computer/fax-y type beeps and buzzes.

Per the database, the only ID'd TG's are provoice, which you cant receive.

I don't think I've heard any understandable traffice on that bank since I programmed it from the database here. I did see there is this notation, in part, at the top of the page for their frequency database:
"Allegan County 800 Megahertz Radio System And your Home Scanner
Allegan County Central Dispatch begins use of the new 800 Megahertz radio System Beginning Monday, the 17th of January, Allegan County Central Dispatch and the law enforcement and EMS agencies of the county will begin to use updated 800 MHZ technology in their day-to-day communications.
With this new 800 megahertz technology the use of current VHF scanners will not be able to monitor the day-to-day communications between Allegan Central and the law enforcement agencies of Allegan County. The new radio system operates using digital encryption, meaning that scanner listeners will no longer be able to track daily activities for law enforcement or EMS (Emergency Medical Services) as you have in the past. "
I didn't know if that meant it was encrypted UNLESS you have an 800-Mhz digital trunking scanner that can receive these types of transmissions, or if it meant it was encrypted, period. Apparently it is encrypted, period. I guess I might as well clear that bank and make 'do with the few conventional frequencies that Allegan County does have, which from time to time I get traffic on.

From the database:
System Voice: ProVoice and Analog
2029 15-135 D Sheriff?
2045 15-155 D Car-to-Car
2046 15-156 D Dispatch
2047 15-157 D Dispatch
Any talkgroup marked D or digital is provoice, which no scanner can receive, the only digital you can receive is APCO25. It's not really encrypted, but in a format a scanner can't decode. See all the posts about provoice.

Some of the simulcast of the fire dispatch is analog. The rest is Provoice. Law enforcement dispatch, and anything really big, however, ends up on a TG that is simulcast on MPSCS because if law enforcement is working with MSP, or any out-of-county agency, they can't communicate since no one else in the area is Provoice. I listen to the simulcast of central dispatch on MPSCS TG 3211, and the fire dispatch on the conventional frequencies.
