450.35

There are numerous media channels in the 450-451 MHz and 455-456 MHz area. These links may still work to show you some of the licensed frqs. in Detroit's area:

when my car radio went out (read that as stolen) I would monitor Metro Traffic on my daily ride on 696. The Chopper is on the ground more like 5:30 ish, but if there is active traffic problems, they stay up later. I monitored them from almost Selfridge all the way thru to 696 and 275 area. When there was traffic problems in the Milan area, the chopper has problems with getting the repeater, but from their line-of-sight, its amazing they had problems

There are times that I have almost driven off the road laughing at them!! And you know when Lance Howard says an accident is "really bad"... its pretty darn bad.

Most days, there are 2 in the chopper, one at the MIT (Michigan Intelligent Traffic) center and one at the studio. Unfortunatly, you dont get the "traffic on the 8's" (they send it down a different unknown frequency) you DO get the behind the scenes updates.

Hello KC8BDK,

Bummer about your radio. That's the one thing that sucks about living in a metro area.

Was it a mobile? If so what brand and type of antenna did you use?

it was the AM/FM/CD player. Not my ham radio. The weird thing was they took the radio, they didnt take the aftermarket 10 disk CD changer that was laying behind my seat.

My mobile radio is a Kenwood TM g 707 with a Mighty Fine Junk (MFJ) 1412 - 1/2 Wave, 3 dB gain on 2 Meters, 5/8 Wave, 5.5 dB gain on 440 MHz. As soon as taxes are back, I am adding a Pro 96 with an antennex A8063C 17" 3.5 dB gain antenna. http://www.tessco.com/products/displ...40&eventPage=2

neither of these are/will be left in the vehicle overnight or if I have to go to Detroit to bail out a friend.

I used to listen to them daily back geez... pre 1991. Nice to hear they're still on. Usually get to hear the air personality warm up, and the bits they cut for the radio.
