One question (okay... two) about the news story posted on the MPSCS page about the Genesee County System... any idea how they expect to do range testing and such when the towers haven't even been started yet? Is 2 months enough time to get a tower up and everything installed?? I guess maybe.
Also... just curious... I had heard (through a friend here involved with the county-wide prject) that Fenton City and Twp. were actually going to be the first to change over because they could tap directly into the Holly tower and therefore would not have to rely on new construction to take place. Just "plug in the radios and go" kinda... I'll admit, they are a separate entity from Genesee County Central Dispatch (they aren't dispatched by the county) but has anyone heard any answers to these two questions. Thanks.

Genesee County will tentatively start equipment acceptance trials and range testing within the first week of February 2005, with Clio Fire Dept., being the first agency to make the switchover. Then on May 2, 2005 the major cutovers will begin taking place and should be completed within a week. Once the bugs are worked out of the system, the old VHF-High band equipment will be phased out completely, with the exception of fire department tone-outs, and those that may wish to use their old radios as a backup for mutual aid purposes.

As an FYI... Central Dispatch, Genesee County OEM, and the Fire Coordination Dispatch should have radios installed by Thanksgiving. Cable is being run and antennas put up. That's at least one sign that the project is moving in a forward direction.
Several other developments have gone on, but I don't know that I can publish them in a public place just yet.
