Question 2 Detroit Area Questions

1) "154.16000 KAT353 BMF 131.8 PL Fire - Base 16 (Tornado Sirens)" This is for dearborn. What exactly happens on this channel, just people testing?

2) In Redford, Fire dispatch is 154.205. But, toneouts are not broadcasted on this frequency, does anyone know where the toneouts are or if they even use Plectron?

They now use telephone lines to alert the stations. Many years ago, when Redford had a volunteer department, they used Plectrons to alert their personnel, but not anymore. In fact, they used to have receivers in local schools and businesses for emergency/disaster alerting purposes on 154.370 MHz. However, they are gone now.

Redford fire used to use the Plectron receivers when I was on the Dept, years ago. 154.37 was the old frequency for most of suburban Wayne county fire depts. 154.205 was the old Livonia fire frequency, and when Livonia went to their new system, Redford took over the 154.205 frequency. I'm just guessing, but they may have purchased some old Livonia radio equipment on that frequency. I don't know why else they would take over the old Livonia VHF freq.

Redford dispatches fire over a phone system, but you will almost always hear the runs over the police radio, as they always send the police on fire runs, if available, and I seem to hear it first on the police freq. Redford seems to have a problem saying "Engine 1 or Squad 1". They just keep referring to E-1, or R-1. Go figure. They are also very secretive, and anything significant will be discussed over cell phones.
