MPSCS Tower Site Redundancy?
Has anyone performed any redundancy test between the Romeo, and Richmond tower sites recently? If the TG traffic is totally redundant between the two, I'd like to eliminate one of them from my routine scan. Anything unique to one, or the other?
I can't run WIN96PRO at the moment, as I do not have any GRE scanners.
Thanks!

What do you mean redundantcy?
Explain what you are hearing?
You do know the older you get the more you either hear or don't hear.

There are some things that I have only heard on Richmond... or just on Romeo... or for that matter, the Macomb system... but there are not very many that arent on all 3 systems.
as an example, I heard the 2south hospital test this morning, and it was only on the simulcast system. I also have been hearing DNR District 10 CO's only on Richmond and Macomb.
but, IMHO, I think that including all 3 systems in the scan, you would be assured that you hear what you want to hear.

Thanks Paul! I intended to keep Macomb County on the list, but was hoping to eliminate either Romeo, or Richmond to make maintaining things a little easier. Looks like I'll keep all three in there.

I can't compare the 2 because I don't get to areas where I can hit them both at the same time. But I know when I get over to Romeo my scanner seems to pick up and decode Romeo's Tower a lot better then Richmond's Tower. Which we talked about at our last gathering.

I can receive them both very well from home. It just seems like the majority of traffic is the same on both of them. So I thought if I could eliminate one of them from my routine scan, the scanner would get back to the Macomb County system faster. I'm trying to cover all digital systems (Macomb County, Romeo, Richmond) with only one scanner right now, as my other BC796D is busy watching MilAir, Federal, and the remaining analog systems in Macomb County. I better keep all three in the loop from what you guys are saying.
Thanks!

Bill you should open up a Communications store someplace. You could monitor things from the store while programming and selling scanners, radios, antennas and other things of that nature.
Call it Great Lakes Communications or Great Lakes Scanning Inc.
Of couse I'd need royality for comming up with the name. A nice brandie new digital scanner would be about the price

The real answer is... It depends....
It depends on what radios are affiliated to which tower site and on which talkgroups...
If there is at least one radio affiliated with a particular talkgroup on each of those sites, then they will all carry that talkgroup...
If any of those sites do not have a radio affiliated on that talkgroup, then the site will not carry that talkgroup at all...
In practice, the Macomb Simulcast will likely carry 99.9% of the Macomb radio traffic. Romeo will carry a fair percentage of the Macomb traffic in the north end (and some St. Clair traffic as well). Richmond will carry a fair percentage of the Northern Macomb traffic as well, at least until the St. Clair system is fully operational, a which time I would venture to guess that the Richmond site as we know it today will cease to exist.

I dont know if Richmond will disapear or not. the north end of Macomb is only Armada tower, really... they would probably need to fill that space in with another macomb tower or ???
the Mt Clemens tower "went away" because the hub for the macomb system is a half mile away
I think we would loose coverage BIG TIME if Richmond went away even after St Clair went active

The Richmond Tower is the main tower for the 2 county area. That's the main site where both systems enter the MPSCS at just like the Northville Tower is the same for the Wayne, Oakland and Washtenaw County area and Flatrock for Southern Wayne and Monroe Counties.

I'm basing that guess on the frequencies for the recently approved St. Clair system. Most of the frequencies on that list are the same as the Richmond site. They can't be on both at the same time.
