Default State Troopers and their miles

It seems like ever since the startup that the troopers can only drive a certain amount of miles per day, it has interfeared with crime. The other day on 94, a post 24 car saw a motorcycle blow past him at 110 MPH, he neglected to chase because he was already over miles. Also, there was a crash that a trooper couldnt respond to because he was going to be over mileage. Also, to keep miles down, the troopers are more likely to be radaring rather than crusing the freeway making sure everything is kosher. Why did they start this mile program, to cut gas costs for the department?

The State leases the cars instead of buying them. Something that has been done since Engler was Govenor. They go over their milage every year and instead of fixing this by purchesing the cars they cut miles from the troopers.

I believe that the MSP started leasing their cars from Motor Transport Div. to save money. They lease them by the mile so there is no major funds needed for purchase of a fleet of cars. MTD will order whatever is needed and bill accordingly. The reason for the mileage reduction is because of the mileage budget being depleted. I think if they went back to buying their own cars they would be driving aging vehicles with 100,000+ miles because they would still have the budget problem.

The problem is that Michigan has lived and died by the auto industry. The state has been losing population and thousands of people have lost jobs because of the auto industry slump. This translates directly into loss of tax dollars for the state and that translates directly to major budget cuts.

The previous Governor was so busy polishing up his resume for a possible Vice Presidency or Federal position that he cut everything and didn't put anything into the infastructure. Then left office and the state with a multi-million dollar deficit.

actually the previous governor is the same one we have now.
I find it amazing that she's approaching this budget problem like she just took office, not like she's been letting it happen for 4 years already.

Actually the previous Governor was Engler.

The previous "governors office holder" was Granholm.

Michigan's financial problems are not just the Governor's problem. We have a
Senate and a House of Representatives sitting in Lansing that is just as responsible as anyone. Somehow we need to find a way to get all those people to work together for the betterment of the State. Instead they just want to point fingers and get re-elected because they didn't offend anyone.
