Default 996t

I think I have asked this question before, so please forgive me, but, would the 996t be a good choice for listening to the Macomb County Sheriif Department, Chesterfield Township, Shelby Township and Selfridge Air National Guard Base?

The Uniden BCD996T works great for MilAir, but not the best choice for Macomb Counties P25 Simulcast system. None of the Uniden digital scanners cope well with CQPSK modulation used on the simulcast system. Radio Shack's (GRE) scanners do better. However the Radio Shack scanners won't cover MilAir out-of-the-box. Don Starr's WIN96 software has a check box to open the bands up a little, and will allow you to receive/scan MilAir. Some claim this doesn't work that well, but I've done it with three PRO-96's, and four PRO-2096's, and they all worked great! I think you live closer to Selfridge than I do. I'm near 25 Mile Rd, and Romeo Plank Rd.

How would the Pro 2096 workout? Why do these scanners have the speaker on the bottom? I think it makes more sense to have the speaker on top. The one thing I do not like about the Pro 2096 is that there is a gap in the military airband frequency range.

The PRO-2096 works very well for Macomb County. The speaker is on the bottom so when it's mounted under the instrument panel of a car, the sound won't be blocked. For base use the manual recommends using the car mount as a stand, but it doesn't make for a very stable setup. I buy those square rubber stick-on feet at radio shack and put them on the bottom. This keeps the radio up off the desk enough to let the speaker's sound out. They also keep it from sliding while programming.

As I mentioned, Don Starr's WIN96 software will fix the gap in the military air band.

Is the Pro 2096 also good for the MSP and the Detroit Police Department?

Did you buy the programing cable, and the WIN96 software?

I did get the cable. I'm not up to speed as far as the digital system goes. Can I monitor digital as well as Selfridge at the SAME time? There is a gap in the military air band frequencies. I understand there is a way to fix that. How do I go about to fix that?
