The city of Troy is simple (for now). Click the link below, then scroll down to Troy. Just about any scanner you can buy today will cover the city of Troy.

For those frequencies you don't need to spend more than $100.00 for a new scanner. Do you want a hand-held, or a base/mobile scanner?

The city of Troy has not gone digital, yet. None of those frequencies I pointed you to are digital. The scanner you have should work fine.

What is the model of the scanner you have now? Have you actually programmed the frequencies for Troy, or are you just expecting it to receive them as is?

The PRO-97 is an excellent scanner, and for Troy's current conventional analog system, it is perfect! Have you actually read the manual, and followed their example for programing? You will not find a scanner easier to program than the one you already have. You're not programing a trunked system, or talk groups, so for now, just skip that part. Follow the instructions beginning at Page 29 of your manual.
Or, take it to the Radio Shack where you purchased it, and have them program it for you. They are supposed to do that for free.

For now, all the things you want to monitor are in FM mode. Troy does use CTCSS (CT) for some frequencies, but you don't need to worry about that for now. You will still hear everything using the simpler FM mode, until you learn more about your scanner.

Excellent! Sometimes you just need to slow down, step back, and you can do it!
Here is the link to the Radio Reference Database. Just click on the State, County, City, etc, to get where you want to go. Scroll though the systems, look around.

Troy, Madison Heights, Sterling Heights, Southfield, should be no problem. I'm not real familiar with Oakland County. I live in Macomb. Maybe some other members will assist you with your area.

The sheriff uses a different system, called "OpenSky". You won't get it.
However, you'd have a lot of fun listening to Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Twp and certainly Auburn Hills during a Palace event. For that matter, you could also listen to the Palace security.
Have fun!

They haven't made the switch over yet because of some software issues..

Does anyone know what Great Lakes Crossing security is on by chance?
I had it wrote down once and listened to it when I was staying at my friends house. They had lots of activity from fights to robberies and foot chases there.
Brings back memories of working at the mall here.
