You may pick-up Fire dispatches on 151.13 (but unlikely), otherwise you wont pick anything up. I live in Genesee County and have a hard time getting any of the 800 mhz traffic.

Lapeer has a weak signal outside the county and the furthest you can year them on a good day is Yale to the east and Davison/Burton on the west on a clear day.

Eventually, Lapeer County will make a full-migration over to the MPSCS. They felt that their system still has some valuable life left, so they currently plan on making the switchover in 2010. Their new simulcast system would be full integrated into the MPSCS, just like Genesee, Macomb, and St. Clair Counties are at present.

Ron this is true. It will be a easy and smooth change over. All they have to do is replace the old 800 analog repeaters with digital 800 repeaters, reprogram all portables and mobiles since they are all brand new. Then they just have to obtain the rest of the stuff from the MPSCS then just replace the old consoles with new ones and done.

It's a lot cheaper then going from scratch and it will be much quicker to do it this way.

Yes, you are correct. Currently, Lapeer County's radios are setup with MPSCS talkgroups, which serve as a backup to all of the agencies on the current analog system. Moreover, there are some very good advantages to this concept especially, when any of the law enforcement units leave the county, they can still communicate back home on the MPSCS.

By the time 2010 arrives, Project 25 Phase II should be here, which will mean that we will need to buy new scanners by that time. From what I have read, the new P25 will use a TDMA format. However, each channel can carry two conversations at the same time on separate talkgroups, which makes for greater spectrum efficiency.

I had the Motorola guy at work last week working on finishing the purchese of the last bit of 800 radios and he said thats exactly what PHASE II is .

The only bad thing about it is that Motorola is behind M/A COM in that aspect. Thats one of the top features of OPEN SKY but with OS they can run 3 or 4 at the same time.

When the talk groups dont bleed into each other. Ask M/A about Oakland's system.
Just one of a few show stoppers
