New Michigan State Police HQ Approved
This upcoming Tuesday, WXYZ-TV 7 reporter Steve Wilson, will take a serious look at the State's troubled plan to build a new Michigan State Police headquarters in downtown Lansing. More can found at the Detroit News Web site concerning this issue. I wonder if they have plans to move the dispatch center and NCC to this new building?

Im not liking this because the old one is perfectly fine and it's cheaper to rent a year then to build a new one.
A lot of the guys Ive spoken to aren't happy with this decision at all.

Live with it. I'm sure some contractor has been promised the money. Can't wait to watch the Circle 7 segment on Tuesday. One of things that either the state or high ranking MSP officials want is a building with bomb-proof walls, like a bunker. All of Emergency Management and Jenny's entourage can be locked down inside Fort Knox in times of distress.

The state's EOC is MUCH safer where it's at than in the middle of downtown...

Rob has a vaild point. If they hit Lansing they want the Downtown area and the Capitol Building. Hitting that cripples the entire infastructure of the State and with the building there MSP Command, EOC, and other vital areas are DONE for.
If that happens all hell breaks loose and no one is in charge and you can toss NIMS right out the frigging window at that point because it's worthless. (not to mention BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRIIIIIII IIINNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGG)

And if you want one more monkey wrench to throw in the works...
The state is shutting down the Calumet post. This would leave the next closest post in L'Anse, about 40 miles away. The L'Anse post, then, would essentially be responsible for three counties (Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw), all the way up to Copper Harbor (78 miles from the post).
Why close post 90 in Calumet? Too expensive, they say, to pay the rent on the building.

That's our wonderful governor and her cronies. The guys that own the land contributed heavily to her reelection (ugh) campaign and is a way to thank them for doing so. The MSP doesn't even want the building. Rent on the current building is, ready, $1 per year. The rent on the proposed building is porported to be in he neighborhood of 3-4 million a year. Hmmmm, quite a chunk of change for a nearly broke and cash strapped state.

New State Police HQ
Bill,
You just don't understand! The state would not pay a dime until 2009 once a Republican is back in office, then they can go all out on TV and say look see how the Republicans are spending your tax dollars.
In an interview on Fox last week she commented on how we need a fair trade agreement with Mexico! I guess she forgot we already had one called NAFTA and it was signed into law by Bill (I did not have sex with that woman) Clinton.
Funny how quickly they forget. It is proff how quickly she has turned around the budget for the state police. A month ago they could only drive 40 miles per shift now thay can spend over $100 million dollars for a new HQ. Afterall the current one is near breaking the taxpayer at a lease rate of $1 per year. She must be thinking you get what you pay for.

I know I am making too many posts on this subject, but I can't understand why is the State of Michigan thinking about spendings millions of dollars on a new headquarters when:
1. They are clsoing posts.
2. When according to news reports they may be shut down or drasticaly reduce state polce operations, come October 1st, if a new budget isn't pass!
3. Other news reports are saying even if a new state budget is approve, there will be drastic layoffs and posts closings!
The above things pops right into my mind everytime I think about the proposal new state police headquarters.

Because the person who will benefit from all of this is one of Warthog's buddies! She owes him big time for political contributions. This borders on larceny by conversion if you ask me!
