Default if you drive in Ontario read this

New law, if caught driving 50km over posted limit they seize your car and suspend your license for 7 days just for starters. here's a link from Eastern Canada forum http://www.radioreference.com/forums...ad.php?t=82865 and probably notify the SOS.

In order for them to suspend the license of a US Driver Canada would have to have a written reciprocal (or however you spell it) agreement with that state which issued the license.

As far as I know no such agreement exists with us and Canada.

O.P.P. was asked if the new rules would apply to U.S. residents, the answer from the O.P.P. was yes it would. By the way 50 km is roughly 30 miles mph our over.

And to put it in perspective:

In my home state of Texas, if you are caught going 25 MPH over the speed limit the officer can take you to jail. Not sure how it is in Michigan though.

Oh, it most certainly does my friend.

I had a speeding ticket for going 80 on the Interstate just outside of Flint. When it came time to renew the plates on my car, they wouldn't until the fine was paid.

That is...the ticket was in Michigan, but I live in Ontario and my plates were from Ontario.

They would probably suspend your driving privileges for 7 days if you held a DL from somewhere else.. While they would not be allowed to confiscate you non-Ontario DL, you would be in the system as suspended DL. Most certainly they would impound your car for 7 days without question.. Hopefully this cracks down on the idiots on the roads....
