Kind of depends on where in the county you are. In my experience working in Genesee, I've seen both U of M Survival Flight and Midwest Medflight (both out of Ann Arbor) used. In the Northern areas, I suppose it's possible to get someone from Saginaw to come. But, I'll admit that it's been a few years since I worked up that way.
In Oakland county, it was always procedure to give the FD or EMS frequency and PL to the helo dispatcher, and the helo would contact us on our freq. Not sure how that would work with MPSCS or a county specific trunk system. I know Midwest used to have Augsburg (sp) radios in their helos which were user programmable to just about any frequency in the spectrum.
They will also use the HEARN to contact the receiving hospital just as a ground ambulance would.
Of course, in almost 17 years of fire and EMS experience, I've only had a helo make a scene call maybe five times. Most of the time, we've taken the patient to the closest hospital, and the helo has either met us there, or been arriving before we left.
