Default Monroe Cty Question

I'm listening to Monroe Cty on my Pro-96 and a fire dispatch came over for units to respond some where in Orion Twp and Oakland County Sheriff is on scene. I was thinking that it might have been interference from 154.43, but that freq was silent. So I guess I have 2 questions:

1) Why didn't I hear anything on 154.43- am I out of range (in SE Romulus) to pick up OC?

2) How can I be out of range if Monroe County is picking it up just fine?

Oakland County Fire uses 154.430
Monroe County Fire uses 154.430

There are a lot of Fire departments on 154.430. Now what Monroe County has done is Patched 154.430 to Talkgroup 2249. This is so the Fire Fighters that have VHF radios can still here the call being toned and so they can still talk. The goal is to eventually have everyone on the MPSCS, but that is not going to happen for sometime. There currently is a fight to keep the patch up for the firefighters.

This is why you are hearing oakland county on Talkgroup 2249.

Hope that helps you

Eric

Thanks...but that still doesn't explain why i can't hear OC on 154.43 and Monroe County, which is 10 miles further away, can.

Exactly, I believe its a couple of hundred feet off the ground. Monroe Central's radio hears far better than his scanner because of the better antenna elevation. In fact, they can receive other departments up to 150 miles away sometimes. As the old saying goes: "height is might."
