Check the aircraft section under the state of Michigan.

Do you know who uses these? The KC-135s, F-16s, or C-130s?

I haven't traveled to Mt. Clemens lately so I haven't been able to listen yet.

xiaNaix, what kind of air to air chatter have you been hearing? Fighters, tankers, transports, etc.

Last night I was watching and listening to some F-16s on 139.625 AM. For about 45min they were flying in a wide orbit pattern over my house. During the 45 minutes, they kept mentioning flying on track 1 and 2. Does anyone have an idea of what they could have been doing, or what kind of air-air channel 139.625 is (tactical maybe?)?

Chief 71 ..

139.625 is a VHF Frequency for "Sting". They are the F 16 squadron out of Toledo. They are a LANTREN squadron per a conversation I had last year with a Selfridge F16 Pilot. That means they use the night vision goggles for night training. They usually train on Tuesday and Thursday nights in the Steelhead MOA over the thumb. You will hear them at night on this freq say " Clear to goggle Off ". I love listening to them so I'm quite jealous that you can not only hear them but see them too! Ok now that you seem to be the " F16 Northern Command Center " let's make sure you have all the frequencies you need to enjoy the show.

First and most important frequency for you to monitor is 369.200 AM - Call Sign Black Talon - This is the Alpena Combat Readiness Center that controls Steelhead and other Military Operating areas near Lake Huron. This will let you know who is coming and going from the MOA's ... you will hear Sting, Demon, Tejas , etc. ( ACM = Air Combat Maneuvering )

Sting Frequencies:

139.975 AM
141.600
143.850 Sting to Bee Hive ( Toledo Base )
138.425
248.100 Sting?

Other

282.800 ACM
228.900 ACM / AWACS
301.600 ACM
364.200 AWACS / HUNTRESS ( NORAD )
238.900 Air Refueling near Thumb area

260.900 Detroit Combat Air Patrol Freq

Enjoy and let us know what you hear and See !!!

Chief 71 and other interested Michigan MilCommers:

Update to Black Talon Frequency ... Found Today 3/9 ... New 234.900 AM
So replace 369.200 with this freq.

Also found new Air Combat Maneuvering Freq ... 225.300 AM
Possible "Uniform 18" for Tejas ( Selfridge F16 ) ... Tejas with Hog Flight

Well Sting was pretty busy today (between 10Am and 4Pm)! I couldn't see them but I could sure hear their engines and radio chatter on 139.625, 141.600, 143.850, and Selfridge approach. I really couldn't make out what they were saying but they were mentioning lots of flight levels.

Oh and thanks for the other freqs!

What are the chances of hearing anything here in the Grand Rapids area? I have a Pro-2052 just waiting to have channels filled up

You have a very good shot at hearing activity. I am in the Detroit area and I hear flights up around Sand Point on a regular basis. When an aircraft is up at 20,000' there is a rather large footprint for line of sight communication.

you should be able to hear them because I was listening to the Sting squadron talking to their homebase in Toledo!

NEW CALLSIGNS:
I caught these while listening to F-16s up in the Steelhead MOA.

Chaos & Alta or Yalta (really couldn't tell) I'm not sure who these are but I do know Baker 3 and 8 were from the 127th FW at Selfridge.

I may have to rig up some kind of antenna here at my apartment to be able to pick them up. I know they won't let me put anything up here and living on the ground floor isn't going to help either, but I will give it a try!!!

Thanks for these frequencies! I was picking up quite a bit of traffic here in London today using my outdoor discone.
