Volunteer Fire Departments Feeling the Pinch of High Gas Prices

Small volunteer fire departments are feeling the pinch of soaring gas prices.

A year ago a gallon of gas in Michigan costs about $2.45. Yesterday the average pice per gallon was $3.24. Today prices jumped to $3.26.

As for diesel, which most fire departments use, the average price one year ago was $2.74. Yesterday it cost on average $3.87 and today it jumped again to $3.90.

Volunteer departments across our area say they may have to cut training and extra equipment to keep up but will still make the runs they need to.

Are any of the Michigan departments out there starting to feel the pinch?

Gas has been up to 3.399 in the Macomb, Utica, Shelby area.

Maybe they need to hold a meeting with the locals to cough up some extra funds for fuel? It should be no different than any other business that passes increase cost on to the customer. Even my trash pick-up service is charging an extra fee to cover fuel cost.
