Default HUNTRESS on 260.900 Mhz

All morning and afternoon I was picking up transmissions on 260.900 Mhz AM from WIZARD ALPHA (E-3 AWACS from Tinker AFB, OK) in comms with HUNTRESS (NORAD EASTERN DEFENSE SECTOR).

Sounded like some kind of exercise. WIZARD ALPHA kept giving coordinates and "tracks". It was coming in very strong from my location in NE Ohio (using my PRO-43 and Diamond RH77CA).

I believe that NORAD East sector is located in Rome, NY (the former Griffiss AFB location). This location was depicted in the movie "United 93" based on the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Anybody have anymore information on what type of exercise this was?

The 2096 is not the best choice to hear milair in the 200 mhz band - it's simply not designed for it. Even when you open it up with Win96, whether you get one that hears well or hears poorly is a crap shoot at best. Some hear well, others are deaf as a post

260.9 is a widely used Huntress freq in the northeast and mid atlantic area. Here in Maryland it's almost always involved when the Prez is in Camp David and a CAP covers the area. 73 Mike

I'm not too much surprised by that even though I can pick up the 302 frequency for the WV Nat guard Airlift,I had the frequencies put in just in the hope one might pop up,you never know

This is one area where I put my Pro-2006 to work. It has not let me down yet. Connected to my Diamond D130J discone, I dont miss too much in the civil-Milair world.

First time I heard the Huntress along with 2 F-16's out of Toledo i think I was on pins and needles, excited as could be. I have heard tons of refueling but hardly do I hear Huntress other than that one time, I am in central Ohio
