Radio Pirates Hi-Jacking Satcom Freqs !

Anyone else Getting these ?

Most of the pirates were in Brazil and they had a big raid on them recently. It seems they didn't get them all.

255.55 is the busiest channel for the pirates. If you have a good enough antenna and preamp you can hear 6-10 different frequencies active during the day. I don't think the guys who were caught got much punishment because these guys are as busy as ever. Also these satcoms are used very infrequently by the military.

Working on a better setup at home just have a nmo vhf w/base kit cut to 155 on the roof
but thats all we mainly have around home gonna get a base uhf antenna for 225-400
and put it on the roof . Just bought my yupiter mvt-7100 (enroute to me ) maybe it will pick up and be even more sensitive then the 396t.

Their seem's to be quite a few Youtube Vids up of video of scanner and audio of satcom transmissions

Youtube Search ->Satcom.

I Drive a semi truck for a livin so i like seeing where all i pick up the satcom the best, last night
was pretty decent 40 miles East of Providence,RI.

You will like the yupi 7100, very hot receiver for 225-400Mhz.

Yes, the Yupiteru MVT-7100 is a VERY sensitive radio, but it's probably going to overload when connected to a rooftop base antenna. Your better off sticking with your Watson W-901 or a custom tuned antenna for the UHF SATCOM band.

I got a 260 Mhz custom tuned rubber duck from below. Works great on my Realistic PRO-43 and it only cost me $16.00 plus shipping! I hear those "pirates" all the time!

It really amazes me that there are still birds that are analog let alone being able to pirate them!

Any wonder the military don't use them often.

Occasionally I can hear foreign languages in the clear in this band- but I lack a decent antenna and I am in the wrong hemisphere for most of the action.

I could Use Some Advice from you guys Thinking about buying this antenna and making it in to some sort of portable antenna .

Thoughts ???

Its an elevated coaxial dipole and a great little antenna for mil air. I have a few but have never put them to good use. You could mount an N type bulkhead female adapter on an L bracket and make it a portable or permanent mount antenna.

Sure.......Let us know how the Smiley antenna works on the UHF SATCOM's. I was thinking of getting one custom tuned to 300 Mhz (center of the 225-400 Mhz Band), but not sure if it will work any better than the 260 Mhz custom tuned duck that I have????

I,am Not sure Frank I called and asked Smiley if they could make me a custom "Broadbanded ant. to cover 225-380 they said they cant and that their antennas are good for about 10 mhz each way so i dunno.
we shall see when i get mine.

I think Smiley's "custom" antennas are somewhat broadbanded. The 260 Mhz custom duck that I use for UHF SATCOM monitoring works in the 422 to 430 Mhz bands, so I'm sure it will pull in signals in the upper part of the 225-400 Milair band (above 260 Mhz). It's not as good as the Diamond RH77CA in the upper range, but it does pull in signals. That's why I use the Diamond for "wide-band" coverage.

The Maldol AL-500H works much better than the stock antenna on my PRO-43 for UHF satcom.

I don't even know where my PRO-43 stock antenna is anymore! I forgot to mention, even the Diamond RH77CA works well for UHF SATCOM signals......

i ordered an antenna (slim duck 5/8 cut for 265mhz. would that be ok to pick up satcom on 243mhz as well as the 260mhz? should i have ask for them to cut it for 255mhz. thanks in advance.

oh btw, i just purchased a yupi 7100 and can't wait to see how it handles the satcom reception.

Well Smiley told me 5-10 mhz each way so say 7 up 7 down i guess yupi-7100 works NiCE on
255.550 fm 258.550 fm 262.200 fm <---proper <--//I use 262.198 fm Squelch near open or sometimes wide open, It gets Even sweeter with my Jim M75 Amp +7db.

Where are you guys finding the Yupiteru MVT-7100, E-bay? I know it was discontinued several years ago. BIGGEST mistake of my radio hobby was selling mine a few years ago! That was one great scanner. I even used it for some decent HF SSB listening. It did a real good job on milair and SATCOM.

I wish I could find another, but the PRO-43 seems to handle the airbands pretty well.....

I'd try the 265 Mhz Smiley antenna on a 220 Mhz ham band signal, if there's one in your area. If it picks up pretty well, then I think it should work well on milair freq's below 265 Mhz.

My 260 Mhz Smiley does well there. I think those "custom" antennas are more "wide-banded" than they advertise!

Hi Frank, When I ordered my Yupi 7100 there were three of them from different sellers. Now the only one is from a seller from japan. item # 380151764271. The buy it now price is $175 plus $28 for shipping.

From time to time you should check to see if there are more of these since they're rare to find, I grabbed mine before someonelse did. Thanks for your help on the antenna issue, I really appreciate it.

Today I logged some more satcom freqs used by pirates. These are 260.525, 263.825, 255.550, 262.225, 262.200 and 257.175. On two of the freqs I heard spanish being spoken (possibly Mexican).On 262.825 it sounded like two techs working on a huge water tank.and were speaking profressionaly in spanish. Has anyone else picked this up?

The radio Iused is the Yupi-7100 with the telescopic antenna. Some of the signals were booming in like it was right next to me.
