Default Jstars/awacs

Does anyone know why the JSTARS or AWACS is flying around the Ft. Hood, TX/Copperas Cove, TX area for the past week? I've been seeing it fly patterns over the area for the past week. Does anyone know the frequency to listen in? Thanks.

If it was a J-STARS A/C, Ft Hood has ground station's to receive data downlinked from the A/C.

If you know the primary mission of JSTARS, and the main mission of Ft. Hood, the answer as to what they're doing is somewhat obvious.

As for freqs, other than ATC type stuff, they'll probably be tactical ones, & probably be secure. The circuit to the Ground Station Modules are secure datalinks. But they also do an airborne battlefield command & control mission these days & that might be your best bet for catching them in non-secure mode.

You should check 30-87.975MHz FM (30kHz deviation) in 25kHz steps, 118-144MHz AM, 148-150.60 AM, 225-400MHz AM.

I have seen AWACS radar on my spectrum analyzer and during the same time carriers rapidly popping up all across the 225-400MHz band. I believe this was a HaveQuick waveform and good luck monitoring the current flavor of that.
