Not usually into milcomm, but...
I caught one side of an interesting conversation, or perhaps it was an announcement, just now.
Bear with me as I am normally a public safety and railroad listener, and I am not sure how to make sense of what I was hearing, but just out of sheer curiosity would like to figure out who it was and what they were talking about. From doing a few online searches, the best I can gather was that it was some kind of NORAD exercise, however except for the frequencies I have no clue what was being discussed. I'm an Army veteran and have had little to no exposure to Air Force operations.
I live in northern New England near the Canadian border.
I have 125.125MHz programmed into my base scanner, for one reason or another. I heard the following on there this morning. Punctuation is to show where there was a pause in the transmission.
"Practice scramble practice, primary frequency is 228.9, secondary 364.2, ra 090 for 120 at 050, time 1302, simulated TY."
OK, so we have 364.2, which seems to be listed online unanimously as NORAD Control. And 228.9, which seems to be NORAD intercept. And I am guessing they were using Zulu time.
Then heard on 228.9:
"Twenty second rat trail."
"49, 32, 10, 9."
"10 6 meeting."
I'm just another monitoring dork who's interested in making sense of what I heard, thanks for anyone who can explain!
