Default 140.400 Air to Air Comms

I was doing some searching a while ago, and came across a conversation between two or more planes on 140.400. I could only hear one side of the conversation, but it was FM.

Anyone have any ideas? Air Force maybe? It wasn't military-type chat, just a general conversation.

If it was FM mode, it probably was not between aircraft.

Default 140.4

More than likely a Range Control frequency.

It was between two aircraft, I am sure of that. You could tell by the way their headsets sounded, and they talked about being 140 miles north of a location, and problems on an earlier landing.

Many military aircraft have the capability to use either AM or FM. It is standard in their avionics package, it's just that they primarily use AM over FM.
