Default Ramsey County rebanding has started

Rebanding is under way for Ramsey County. The control channel hasn't changed yet, but an alternate control, ID, and several voice channels have as indicated below. Might be a good time to add the new control channel frequency (852.0875) to your scan list.

Ramsey County rebanding has been completed. The control channel is now 853.3625 and the alternate control channel is 853.7625.

The system techs have reconfigured Ramsey County control (c) and alternate (a) channels:

Thanks for the heads up!

SO... (pro-96)... I dont have to do anything except program the new control channels right? All TGID's the same etc..?

Correct, just change the control channels. All else remains the same.

It has been a couple of days with no additional frequency changes on the Ramsey County system. The latest control/alternate frequencies are 15 MHz lower than before the rebanding and in the same order. I no longer see heavy activity on the SYS TECH talkgroup starting around 11 pm every evening, so I am hoping they are now finished with the rebanding.

As wogggieee mentioned, all the TGIDs are the same. The only change required would be to replace the old control/alternate frequencies with the new ones listed below.

My PSR-500 using Pro96com is now reporting the following control/alternate frequencies and should be included in your Ramsey County configuration:

Control: 852.08750
Alternate: 853.36250
Alternate: 853.71250
Alternate: 853.76250

Both of my BC996Ts and the PSR-500 are working fine after reprogramming the new frequencies. I loaned out my BC296D to a friend and won't be able to test that one until I can reprogram it on Tuesday.

Greetings Chewmeister, question for you, I recently purchased the BCD396t and have gone through all of
the programming process for Ramsey Cty, my main interest, I have all the "rebanded freqs" loaded as
well as about a 100 tgid's and the scanner is scanning and the tgid's are showing but I have No audio when
it does stop. Audio on non-trunking works fine, my squelch is set at 3, I'm not using a fleet map, I don't
think I need to just using the control channel.. I must be missing something but after a week of trying I
haven't found it yet...Any insight would be greatly appreciated...Signed "techieiam"

techieiam,

While I do not own a BCD396T as I started out with a BC 296D and later added two BCD996T scanners, the 996 is similar to the 396 except for a few additional features. Most of the trunk programming settings are the same. Fleet maps are not used on the ARMER system.

Being you have audio when using conventional mode, and the control channel data appears to be read OK being it does stop on the TGIDs you programmed in trunking mode, I suspect either the received signal level is too weak, a stored setting is missing/corrupt, or possibly a bad P25 decoder. Interference could be an issue, but it should affect the control channel data as well. Also, what location are you trying to listen from? The location, if too far away, may cause the weak signal level issue. Being I do not know your location, I will pretend you are in Ramsey County or close enough that you have a good signal level.

I have noticed that when I only have one or two bars showing that the scanner still locks on the TGID but does not decode audio. Have you tried other locations around Ramsey County to see if you have audio and to help rule out signal level/interference issues? Are you using software to program your scanner?

I gather you selected Motorola (MOT) for the sytem, but I do not know whether you selected P25 or 800MHz Standard for the type of system. 800MHz Standard will require you configuring the control-channel only setting.

You will need to check that the control-channel only setting is enabled if only the control channel plus alternate frequencies were programmed in. You would need all current 20 Ramsey County system frequencies programmed in if the C-Ch Only setting is off or the scanner will not switch to the frequency assigned to that talkgroup.

If the C-Ch Only was set to on, I would check these settings:
* Adjust P25 Level - start by selecting "Default", then repeat again using the "Auto" setting.
NOTE: This setting has no effect with the latest firmware, but won't harm anything either.
* Modulation - set to Auto or NFM
* Attenuator - set to Off.
* Audio AGC - Select Digital, then set to Off
These may or may not be optimal settings, but at least you should get audio now if any were incorrect. The manual will show you how to adjust these settings. I also recommend setting the squelch to 0 or open when scanning digital systems.

If all else fails, initialize the scanners memory, also in the manual, then try creating a new system. If using software, do not edit an existing system, just start with a new configuration. Use Motorola and P25 for the type. Under the site settings, create only a Ramsey County site and program the following frequencies: 852.0875, 853.3625, 853.7125, and 853.7625. To start with, just program these five active talkgroups (you can revise later if you have audio), or just use ID SEARCH: 11558 (SPPD-1), 11560 (SPPD-2), 11562 (SPPD-3), 12400 (SPPD-4), and 11532 (SPPD-5). You will end up with default settings for this new system. If your receive signal level is strong enough and the P25 decoder is working properly, you should have audio. If still no audio, try the RR forum home page and under the Scanner Models Discussion section, select Uniden and post your audio problem there. UPMan from Uniden and others there may have a solution or advise you to RMA the scanner back to Uniden.

Default BCD396T Audio Problems

Chewmeister,
This is a follow up note to the one you sent me and a list of potential fix's. Well I did everything you suggeested with one exception, I saved the "memory reboot" until last and when I re-entered the information regarding RC and the TGID's from SPPD, TA-DAH!!!! there it was, the audio still sounds
a little "digital" to me but that might be in a final fix or perhaps another firmware update, in any case
your a "hero in my book" and I appreciate your help...
