Wisdom needed.

I have a 996t. I would like to update firmware and use freescan to update. My question is what steps should I follow to do it? I will be using a usb to connect computer to scanner. But after that,what steps should I follow so I can avoid issues?

I'd first do the firmware upgrade. Uniden's site offers excellent instructions how to do so. I had a problem, and it was entirely my fault, with doing a 996 firmware upgrade. Be sure you register your 996 and enter all the info correctly including serial numbers and checksum. That's what I did incorrectly and suffered all kinds of frustration.

Then you should be able to program your scanner via computer with Freescan, Proscan, Uniden's sofware or ARC from BuTel. Personally I like BuTel's but that's like Fords and Chevies. Some like one and hate the other.

I'd tinker with all before you adopt one as your standard software programming tool.
