There isnt a whole lot of traffic on it... very sparse... it is only dispatch to dispatch. State Patrol is probably the most common user of it and they usually use ti when it is really busy and your radio will probably be on another talkgroup during the quick transmissions that go over it. It should be on every Metro Control channel, but may possibly be only on the city center...

And yes, I do think encryption is an excellent tool.

I recently purchased Win500 software for my PSR-500 scanner which features a record option so that all the hits can be recorded into an individual sound file. I have set up the scanner to run all night a few times recently and received some METCOM activity. The log file associated with the recording indicates that it uses the Minneapolis 101 tower, and the traffic is indeed agency-to-agency. The files are faily small and I could send you a sampling if you'd like (just send me a PM with your e-mail address). Thanks -Bruce

It is my understanding that METCOM is not supposed to be used in any mobile or portable radios, only in dispatch consoles (backup radios are apparently OK). If a talkgroup is used only by dispatch console users, I don't think the transmissions are ever sent over the air. It's possible a supervisor or a radio tech is monitoring METCOM via a portable in Minneapolis, against MESB policy, allowing the scanning of the talkgroup from their system.
