Default St Cloud System

Is there any way to monitor the St Cloud talkgroups from the metro area? IF not, will there ever be a way when the whole state is converted?

Only if they happen to be voting on to the metro systems. i heard St. Cloud PD Admin and Stearns Sheriff 2 yesterday... its intermittent, but that is the point of the system for not everyone to be on every control channel, only the ones they need...

And yes, I do think encryption is an excellent tool.

If you are in Coon Rapids, put up an 800mhz yagi kind of high, use low loss cable, and maybe a good quality preamp - you might be able to get something from Stearns Co/Saint Could. It would be fun to try

I have picked up St. Cloud channels on the Wright/
Sherburne System. I know I can't get reception on this system by handheld in Maple Grove North of 694 so you may be able to get it fairly well in C.R.

Just read in the local paper that MNDOT approved the addition to the Anoka County's 800mhz radio tower in Ramsey. The addition will be two microwave dishes on the tower and installing electronics in the county-owned equipment shelter at the site. This is going to be done to tie the central Minnesota regional 800mhz radio sub-system to the metro system. It needs a point=to=point microwave connection.

After this is done, will it be easier to monitor Central Minnesota talkgroups???

This deals with the system controls, it will not change reception of field units. The best way to get them is with an external antenna aimed toward the St. Cloud sites. Some St. Cloud units roam onto the Sherburne System which is an option but if no radio is currently affiliated to Sherburne on the channel you want to listen to, you won't hear anything.
