Question New to this

I am new to this and am looking for a scanner, possibly Uniden, but as I live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and they use the 800mhz band I am not sure what brand to buy. I don't need a lot of channels, but the ability to be mobile is desired. Also the last thing is price...the better the deal the better the deal.

Thanks for any advice/direction you can give me.

If you can wait for the next sale a Radio Shack on the PRO-106 thats the best prices I've ever seen otherwise expect to pay 500

Agreed, a Pro-106 on sale is probably the best bang for your buck on a new handheld digital trunking scanner. You could probably find a used Pro-96 for much less, but the performance and the feature set on the Pro-106 makes it absolutely worth it.

Whichever one you buy, make sure it does digital trunking. Lots of scanners will receive the 800MHz band, only a handful will decode the digital signal. You would be wise to spend a little time reading in this section of the wiki: Categoryigital Scanners - The RadioReference Wiki

Is the pro106 essentially the same thing as the GRE psr 500?
