XT signal loss - beats me

Got the bcd396xt. Programmed for analog in Hennepin and Wright Co's and digital P25 for Carver Co. The first week of use I was getting fairly decent signal strength from Wright and Carver, with some break up and fade out, but not too bad.

Then, this second week, the signal in all modes is failing to hold. I even put up a roof antenna with no improvement. I also have an older Uniden USC230, and with both units set to scan Wright county on analog only, they both grab the signal fine, but while the 230 continues to broadcast, the XT loses the signal after a second or two. Why would it do this after working reasonably fine the first week or so?

I have read the manual and played with all the settings I thought might help, but nothing improves. the XT simply won't hold a signal. Either someone knows what the heck is wrong, or I will have to send it back to Hamradio.com
