Question ARMER TG 528 - what does it do?

I heard traffic this afternoon (29Sep09 15:30) on TG 528, but I wasn't sure what it was. For some reason, I have it tagged in my scanner as "mutual aid encrypted" but the database lists it as a State Radio Board demonstration TG; I'm not sure now where I got my tag. The traffic was a conversation between two men and I thought they mentioned someone from Virginia, MN was here and they traded some banter about using "10-4" on this TG and that it was supposed to be "plain language" only. Does anyone out there know any more details? -Bruce

I also have it as a Demo TG but the only other time i can recall hearing it per my notes was during RNC...

And yes, I do think encryption is an excellent tool.

I also heard a couple of male voices having a quick conversation on Friday (Sept 25) afternoon. I only got bits and pieces but it sounded as if they were checking radio signals as one said to the other that it was loud and clear from a particular intersection. The last transmission that I heard was the other looking forward to the next transmission but I never heard anything since. I was assuming, because ARMER is new to this area, that it was testing but I don't know. Interesting that you heard it a day later down that way. I am home today and will be keeping an ear on.

follow up to my post 20 minutes ago, I checked my notes and see that this TG was used for radio tests on the weekend of June 3/4 as well.

Just heard someone preceding their last name with ECN calling another ECN (last name) on 528 this afternoon of the Argus Lookout tower (Duluth area). That was it though, no conversation. ECN: Emergency Communication Network?

Heard a conversion on 528 finally. It was in fact a Demo of sorts. One half of the conversation was in St. Paul, the other at the DECC (Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center) during the MN Fire Chief's expo. Sounded to be a demo to a local fire chief from how the conversation transpired. So, there you have it. I missed over three weeks worth of work, showers, eating, restroom time, and the such to get another crack at hearing this talkgroup up here to be able to post a worthwhile answer. It wasn't 'none stop hang on to the seat of your shorts' but it was a good conversation to hear to be able to come up with what the tg might be used for.

Thanks! I appreciate your tenacity! Now I'll change the tag in my scanner. It's interesting to note how state-wide ARMER truly is.
