Default Mpls. Scanning Help

Would like to contact a fellow metro scanner who would be willing to share settings,TSYS ideas tips, ect. With only 1 radio it's hard to tell if I'm getting the most from mine. RR open forums suggested I try to contact a local scanner to compare. I run a RS Pro 197 with rubber duckie. I use Win 500 1.89. I am considering an outside antenna but can only go up about 20 ft. Will I gain anything. I scan mostly police and fire with some conv. (aircraft). I am in the St. Louis Park, Edina area. Other than the shack, is there anyplace local to find antenna's ect. I can supply any other details if you choose to reply. Post, personal or e-mail fine. Thank You.

jao,

I wouldn't mind being "that guy" to help or bounce ideas off of, etc. I grew up close to where you live and also lived in that area about 15 yrs ago. I now live out by "the lake". Let me start this off by giving you a couple of ideas.

1. Click on one of the live feeds and listen to it. Are you hearing similar traffic on the feed vs. your scanner? I've found that's there is a two second delay, as well as TGs on the feed that I don't have, but I do hear some of the ones I do have on the feed.

2. Check out ScanFan - The Coolest Scanner Site Anywhere Essentially a website similar to this for MN scanning specifically.

Thanks for reply. Didn't mean that guy the wrong way. Whatever. I went to the scanfan link and clicked on tg then set scanner and link to Bloom pd disp id#10808. Both the same. Clicked on Bloom. am I spose to hear traffic there? I'm not. Scanner picks up calls on this object but nothing from link on pc. Am I doing something wrong? Also, the first time I clicked on cty's first, then cities. Please splain something. Why are there still FM channels listed? Do they still use some of those or are they just listed for old times sake? Ya mean my BC-100 might do more that just aircraft?

Don't worry about "that guy"... my poor attempt at humor.

So, have you plugged any other TGIDs in?

If so, are you hear anything from them?

An outdoor antenna will definitely help. Your best bet for an antenna is likely online. Radio Shack doesnt offer much anymore.

MM,
Tried again this morning. Active morning on scanner but unable to get anything on scanfan. I'm doing something wrong. But, got to thinking I'm not sure what that's gonna tell me. Maybe I wasn't clear to start. Scanner pretty much programmed the way I want I was just trying do get a simple comparison like: You get da da north dispach. I don't. Why? Is it antenna, settings or what? Not sure our locations are close enough for that to work. I put in anything I thought I could have a remote possibility of pulling in and am only using like 550 out of 39,000. What else can I listen too? Here's Me. West burbs mpls are 5 bars loud and clear. St. Paul/Ramsey pretty good some problems with east side although I get some Dakota Cty. and have pulled in Hastings. Anoka and Anoka Cty again pretty good. some problems on No. side. I just don't know if I can improve that or not. I got another reply from the Golden Valley area and sent this same info. I'll see what comes back. I want to thank you for suggesting scanfan though. I found some channels too that didn't show in RR import. Or I missed them. Also found some channels I want to retag. I had no idea Henn. NO, E, and SO were sheriff channels. They were part of my preload form RS and I had no idea what they were till now. Thanks again.
