Default Welcome!

Hi, Matt - welcome to the Metro! To listen to police and fire in Brooklyn Park as well as the rest of the Metro, you will need a digital scanner - no question. Personally, I have a GRE America PSR-500 portable, but other digital scanners will work just fine as long as they have APCO Project 25 decoding capabilities. You didn't mention if you moved here from Outstate or out-of-state, but FYI listening to a scanner while driving in your car is a crime in Minnesota unless you have a special license from the BCA (Bureau of Criminal Apprehension) or a license issued by the FCC for amateur radio. I'd suggest you go the wiki for Minnesota (Minnesota(US) - The RadioReference Wiki) for more info. There is a ton of good stuff there. -Bruce

Hi Matt,

Welcome to the Land of 10,000,000,000,000,000 mosquitoes!

If you have an idea of what you want, I may be able to help you, as I may have a used unit for sale.

PM me if you're interested.

MM

I'm sure glad you didn't need me to give you a good deal on a 396T! I would've needed to buy yet another replacement scanner.

Good luck with the 996T.

Why don't you try to do some basic programming to get you going for a bit, then come to our possible scanner enthusiasts meeting this fall.

Otherwise, you could possibly get Freescan, pay for a premium membership here, then download what you need from this site using Freescan.

I myself have the 396T and have used the software program that Uniden has on their website, and has worked great for me.
