Default Carlton Sheriff Dispatch

Does anybody know which is the correct dispatch freq for Carlton Sheriff? RRef db has 151.2500 (151.4) and 154.860 (073).

I suppose I could just go up there, but I'm in Anoka at the moment.

And yes, I do think encryption is an excellent tool.

They both are correct, however, if I remember right I found the 151.25 frequency to be easier to hear. It appears 154.86 is a simulcast of some sort of the audio on 151.25 so I only listen to 151.25 and it works fine.

Could you clarify which one is which, please?

Also, I just remembered, this summer when the Hell's Angels were in town, I heard Carlton dispatch on 154.98. I can't remember if it was simplex or repeated. I heard someone new on the frequency and looked it up to find it was licensed to Carlton. As I listened more, it sounded like it was being used as an alternate dispatch frequency since it was so busy.

I only have a basic understanding, so my explanation is not even close to what a truly knowledgeable person could give you. That being said, here goes:

Simplex is only one side of a two way conversation, is usually low powered, and may (or may not) be repeated from an "in vehicle" repeater, which is a very low powered transmission. It is designed to work like the old VHF systems without bleeding into other "close" communities that have a frequency in use that may be close to the one being used.

Repeated duplex (du = dual) is both sides of the conversation, and is usually repeated for one tower to the next within a larger coverage area using more power.

Therefore, if you hear a signal that is quiet or just one side of a conversation, it is likely a "simplex" channel.

I'm sure I will get lambasted by a knowledgeable person for my very basic explanation that is probably full of incorrect or variable facts, but thats the best I can do.

Oh, sorry. I thought you meant one was just a simplex broadcast of the other which was a repeater. Something along the lines of an analog simplex simulcast of a digital trunked talkgroup.

From the FCC's site both frequencies are repeated. So I'm now thinking that they are two different repeaters that are simulcast.

Maybe it would be wise to put all of the freqs in the scanner and listen when you are there....

Interestingly. I'm literally right on the NE edge of Carlton County and I hear 151.250 a lot better than 154.860 or 154.800. They also have / had a UHF 450 MHz frequency ... 458.350 I believe it is?

On a somewhat OT note, I regularly pick up 88.7, 91.9, and 104.5 from Fargo on FM here outside Duluth with an APS-9B. I also often saw KVRR (channel 15) when it was on analog.
