Forgive me for not understanding but what does XCEL use these VHF frequencies for when they have an entire SmartZone System? Or is this some other end of XCEL?

Xcel Energy (MN) Motorola Type II system in the Twin Cities. Im in the west metro of MLPS & St. Paul

I guess I thought they had the system on more of a company wide area but it seems its just a MLPS area thing.

I am going to put the Conv freqs into the scanner and see what I can hear!! Thanks for the reply!!

The trunked system has a footprint that is limited to only the metro.

The VHF frequencies in outstate are migrating slowly to Project 25 conventional, so NO trunking, just a digital voice.

In Rochester, there is
451.42500 456.42500 KNBW268 RM Peoples Cooperative Services P25 Utilities
This is not Xcel Energy, but this pair has existed for at least 8 years with the digital format.

Q: Is it Mac compatible?
A: No. Drive your hybrid down to the store and get a real computer.

I have been trying to monitor Great River Energy which is analog, Motorola Type II SmartZone Omnilink. Great River Energy has bought out Frost/ Benco (an electric power co-op) in my local area. I see trucks w/ the GRE logo in the area every few days, but have never heard any radio traffic. I think these entities are using cellphones rather than radios, so the public does not hear what is going on.
