Hey JonD thanks for the comment... I hope it gets some good use... The Audio ARCHIVE is a major PLUS! I was told there was a high speed chase this morning and I found it... Everyone can go back and listen to it if they want...

Go here: http://ms.scanamerica.us/modules.php?name=FeedArchive

And select 9/8/2008 for the date and start listening to the time from from 9:17 am to 9:36 am time frame.. about 3 min and 20 seconds in you can hear a Gautier officer screaming into his mic with his siren covering his voice up.... its very confusing....but exciting at the same time.

Default question

i can hear a digital transmission every once in a while that is very broken up and it sounds like the control channel is trying to bleed through is that supposed to be happening ?

It's either Pascagoula PD or Ocean Springs PD. The big problem is the system is MIXED. It's not true P25, and its very difficult to get a real clean copy on the audio. With me using just a rubber duck on the scanner doesn't help much either. I hope that when I get the 800mhz yagi up the signal will be solid all of the time and will fix most of that problem.

What you're hearing is the scanner having a hard time trying to decode the apco25 signal coming in. If it was a true P25 system it would sound perfect.

The station consists of the following:

Computer is an old Dell Latitude 350mhz PII with 256mb of ram running Windows XP Professional SP2. Streaming software is Simplecast with Monitor.exe for the talkgroup ID tag broadcasts. The scanner being used is a Uniden BCD396T digital scanner. One audio cable going from the headphone jack to the mic in jack on the laptop.

I'm connected to the internet via 802.11b wireless 3meg/384k service, and sending the feed to scanamerica.us where Gordon is providing the bandwidth for me. So instead of people getting the stream directly from my machine/internet, they're getting it from scanamerica. That way very little bandwidth and computer resources are used on my end.

The scanner and laptop is just sitting on a small table in my room. I'm using the GRE 800mhz rubber duck antenna. I also have a Uniden BC-246T scanner which will be connected in the near future. This scanner will feed HARRISON COUNTY Public Safety. In order for me to do that I will need to buy an 800mhz yagi antenna, and a multiplexer, along with an additional sound card.

No I'm not a radio tech, I work for the Biloxi Police Dept. in the Booking Control and as a Deputy Court Clerk.

If you use WINAMP to listen to the feed, you'll be able to see who you're listening to. Because when an agency transmits, my feed not only broadcasts the audio, it also broadcasts the Agency's name, and channel/talkgroup. It only works for people using winamp, so to get the total experience be sure and use winamp.

Everyone in Harrison County is on the same system. In the 3 years I've been here, we've had little to no problems with the EDACS. Provoice sounds pretty good. Everyone here just upgraded. They did have LPE200's and now everyone is carrying Jaguar 7100's.

This is great stuff, and the archives are a bonus. Thanks! One question however, is there there a way to isolate what which agency I listen to? For example, listen to just Ocean Springs, or just the S.O. and exclude Moss Pt, etc.?

Kegan, no there isn't. I only have one scanner and one feed, and I have a requirement to be able to hear Moss Point, Gautier, and Ocean Springs PD so those are scanning. There is absolutely no virtual or online control so there is no way to lockout an agency online.

I will tell you that the only department you'll hear (for the time being) in digital is OS. And its pretty easy to tell when OS is talking. If you want to be able to see who you're listening to you need to download winamp player to your computer and listen to it in winamp.

That way you'll at least always know who you're hearing in real time.

Default Feed Update:

Last week I ordered some antennas and supplies for the scanner feed. Today when I woke up the packages were on my door step.

I ordered a Laird (Cushcraft) Commercial grade 4 element 800mhz Yagi for 28 dollars at RadioOutfitters.com.

Well I hooked it up to the scanner and WOW!!!!! WOW!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The signals are greatly increased. No more MOTOR-BOATING. APCO25 transmissions sound pure and clean. Analog sounds clean, no crackling, static or multipathing. . .

GET THIS, And the antenna isn't even installed. Its sitting in my room propped up against my desk with a short patch coax going to the scanner. I was even able to receive MOBILE AL Mobile County, and Mobile City trunked systems. I could not receive Harrison County well enough to start scanning it yet. But I figure as soon as I get this antenna outside on a mast I should have no trouble at all picking up HANCOCK COUNTY and HARRISON COUNTY systems.

Anyone with a base scanner or that uses a scanner at home with just a rubber duck and has trouble hearing 800mhz systems should consider this antenna.

I'm now scanning JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF talkgroups. I hadn't done so before because the digital sounded so horrible on the rubber duck but now it sounds so good!

I'll keep updated on here as the setup progresses
