Pike has gone digital

About two weeks ago I am told Pike SO went digital using 900 meg frequiencies to broadcast its 155.**** freqs. So far I have not been able to learn its new freqs. Can any one help me?

If it happened the FCC doesn't know anything about it. I checked the last 50 licenses for Pike County, and the closest thing is a bunch of 800mhz SMR trunking frequencies assigned to the southern company, which is SouthernLinc http://www.southernlinc.com/

Nothing listed in the FCC ULS for 900mhz and nothing listed in 800/900 mhz for public safety. Have you tried doing a search in the 900mhz range to see if you hear anything?

It might be possible that the person telling you that meant that Pike County SO is patched in with the MSWIN system which is the new statewide 700mhz digital system. They have towers being built all throughout the state, and the primary users will be state agencies like MHP and so forth, but they're making sure that cities and county agencies will have access too. They could very easily patch a vhf frequency onto a talkgroup to link to state agencies.

If they have gone digital and your scanner is not you won't be able to hear them. (I assume that you have a digital scanner)
Digital on an analog scanner sounds like long "BRRrrrrraaaaapppppppppps"(Machine gun sounds). If they are encrypted you'll get short sounds kinda like R2D2 & C3PO talking.

That explains a lot.. Most public safety people know squat about their own radio systems. Most of the officers in my department refer to our system as "the new 900 system" i mean what is this fixation on 900mhz????? We're on an EDACS Provoice 800mhz trunked system. But they all assume its 900mhz.

Anyhow can you do something like use windows recorder to record a bit of the audio (digital sounds) you're hearing and post it to the board for us to hear? Might be able to determin if what they're using is something a digital scanner can pick up or not.

I know Pike SO has been using voice inversion more and more.. They may have started using it all the time.. It will sound kinda like donald duck.. Is that what your hearing? If so you can order a cheap kit that will plug into your scanner and you will be able to listen like normal..
