Default Band Opening

There was an incredible band opening last night, and it's carried on into this morning, its 8am now and I just finished talking to a man in ORLANDO FLORIDA on 2 meters VHF. He was using 70 watts on a vertical antenna up 20 feet, and I was using my mobile unit with 25 watts.

Oh I forgot to mention, I'm on the gulf coast of Mississippi. That had to be 4 or 5 hundred miles easy. People were reporting this morning working stations all along the coast from Arizona to South Carolina..

I just tuned around the 154-156 mhz public safety band with my HF and the vhf antenna is inside my room and I'm hearing repeaters and agencies I've never heard before.. A lot of them interfering with one another...

Major band opening so start tuning around.

Talking

I will second the band opeing.. Heard stations from MS, AL, FL, LA. Talked to someone in Eunice LA from my mobile rig this morning (I was in Arlington, TX). Someone in Tampa, FL chimed in also!

I am a dispatcher for an oilfield trucking company in West Texas, I was listening to a welding fabrication company in MS giving measurements on our UHF TA channel this morning. I also heard Mexican fishing boats on our Low Band (40mhz) this morning.

Expect more of the same, Come Tuesday, and Wednesday TX, LA, and MS will have ducting propagation again in the YELLOW/ORANGE range.

This website shows you where propagation is, and the different colors show you the intensity. The closer to red, the stronger it is, the closer to blue the weaker it is. Gray'ed areas have no propagation.

Tropospheric Ducting Forecast for VHF & UHF Radio & TV and just select eastern north america from the region menu.
