This does not show any details regarding the type etc. Until the call is sent out for bids and specifics on what they want in the system, no one knows. All they say for sure is that it meets the narrowband requirements... LOL That could mean a conventional analog FMN system, an P-25 conventional FMN system, an TRS in any of the known varients. All they have thus far is approval by taxpayers to take more money, which it seems the taxpayers have no clue they are about to get hit.

St. Charles County has the tax base to do just about anything they want. They also have a relatively flat county so just about any radio type should work well.

However it is difficult to work inside the county due to all the different radio systems. St Charles City on Trunked P-25/Analog, St. Peters on trunked analog, O'Fallon on conventional 800mhz, Lake Saint Louis VHF-HI convention, Wentzville VHF-HI Conventional, and SCSO on VHF P25.

There had been rumors of St. Peters and O'Fallon combining their dispatch centers and moving over to trunked radio however that seemed to fall by the wayside right around the beginning of this "recession."

Throw in the mess of rumors about St. Louis City being the beginning phase of a statewide trunked system, the rumors of St. Louis County also switching over to the St. Louis City trunked system, then coupled with all the problems that the St. Louis City system has had and perhaps is still having, and all you get is speculation on what St. Charles County may or may not do.

I do have reliable information from guys who work for O'Fallon PD that there system is pathetic on the outskirts of town. This would make sense considering the amount of ground O'Fallon has incorporated in the past 5-10 years and the fact that they haven't made any real efforts in expanding their radio network.

It would be nice if all law, fire, and ems would be on the same frequencies... the holy grail of emergency communcations I might add... but somehow in the end I just doubt it will happen.
